Located only about 25 minutes from downtown Sandpoint and 15 minutes from SilverWing at Sandpoint, Schweitzer Mountain is, as MSN Travel said it best, "a 2,900-acre secret that won't remain one forever." From the top of mountain, at 6,400 feet, the stunning views include Canada's Selkirks, Montana's Cabinet and Bitterroot Mountain Ranges, as well as Lake Pend Oreille.
This award-winning retreat is home to some of the best skiing and riding in the Inland Northwest with its many terrain types, including wide open bowls, gladed runs and tree skiing, and has ambitious plans for expansion. The 92 named runs range from double-diamond trails to those more approachable by beginners and kids, and, for snowboarders, Schweitzer has to what Powder Magazine calls the "best park in the Pacific Northwest".
Ski Magazine calls Schweitzer "unassuming and uncrowded," as on a typical day, there averages one skier per acre, and notes it receives "100 more annual inches of snow than Sun Valley," typically in excess of 300 inches. SKI Magazine named their lift system (one high-speed six-pack, two high-speed quads, one fixed-grip triple, three doubles, and three surface lifts) "#10 in the USA" for 2008.
Throughout the year, Schweitzer is always a social hub, hosting numerous concerts and events, such as the Outrageous Air Show and Fall Fest. During the summer months, Schweitzer is open for many activities, including hiking and mountain biking, and has climbing wall and a bungee jump trampoline.
